The Hawks just made a cool gesture to Carmelo Anthony, the superstar they bought out without playing him for a single game.
Melo wanted the shirt for his collection, never mind he was only a passing visitor.
After being traded from Oklahoma City for Dennis Schroder, the Hawks reached a buyout agreement on Melo’s contract, saving the veteran’s minimum $2.4 million on his $27.9 million contract for him to walk away and become an unrestricted free agent.
Depending on your calculations, the shirt cost Carmelo, now a Houston Rocket, $2.4 million or Atlanta $10 million – the difference between Schroder’s $15.5 million salary and the remaining $25.5 cap hit on Carmelo’s deal.
Either way that’s one expensive jersey!
